Why I Built Waterdaddy

Swimming in South Africa deserves better. I built Waterdaddy to make that happen.

There is so much more to swimming than a price tag. I started Waterdaddy Performance because I saw a gap — serious swimmers in South Africa wanting top-of-the-range performance gear but facing massive import costs and limited access to the kind of equipment that overseas athletes take for granted.

Buy and sell pre-loved swimming gear safely. Every sale runs through Waterdaddy — buyers and sellers never exchange details, money is held until the item arrives, and nobody gets scammed.

How It Works

Your money never goes straight to a stranger. That is the whole point.

Buyer Pays Waterdaddy

The buyer checks out on this site. The money lands in the Waterdaddy holding account — not in the seller's pocket.

We Collect From The Seller

We notify the seller and book Courier Guy to collect from their address and deliver to the buyer. We generate the waybill — the two never exchange addresses. Both are notified at collection and at delivery.

Buyer Confirms → Seller Paid

Buyer has 48 hours from delivery to click Item Received or report a problem. Then the funds release to the seller's wallet. EFT out in 1–3 business days.

Free to list. You set your price — we handle the buyer, the payment and the courier. Your name, address and contact details are never shown to buyers.

Every field is required. We need complete information to arrange collection, pay you correctly and protect you if anything goes wrong.

1 · Your Details — kept private

Never shown to the buyer. We book the collection and generate the waybill ourselves so you two never exchange addresses.

3 · The Item
4 · Price

Your selling price is what buyers see. The retail price is shown alongside it so buyers can see how much cheaper your item is — it must be the genuine recommended retail price of the item when new.

5 · How You Get Paid
What Store Credit Can Be Used For
  • Any Waterdaddy Performance equipment — drag socks, wetbags, paddles, apparel, all of it
  • Your delivery charges on Waterdaddy orders
  • Spend it in parts — R500 credit against a R300 order leaves R200 sitting in your wallet for next time
What It Cannot Be Used For
  • Other people's second-hand listings. Resale items are paid for in cash only
  • Waterdaddy Premium and training programmes. Those are monthly subscriptions collected by debit order, and mixing credit into a recurring payment gets confusing for everyone
Your Bank Details

Stored against your seller record. We read these details back to you for confirmation before any payout is made, so money can never reach the wrong account.

6 · Photos

All of these are required. Your photos are the evidence we judge any dispute on — they protect you as much as the buyer.

7 · How Payment Works
1. A buyer pays the full amount to Waterdaddy. The money is held by us and recorded against an order reference. You are never sent money by a stranger, and no proof of payment can be faked.
2. We book and pay for Courier Guy to collect from your address and deliver to the buyer. You and the buyer are both notified at collection and at delivery.
3. On delivery, the buyer gets an itemised confirmation of exactly what they bought and has 48 hours to report a problem. You get an email confirming delivery and that your payment will be processed within 48 hours.
4. After 48 hours with no complaint, you are paid. Store credit is issued immediately as a code that loads into your wallet on this site. Bank payouts are made by EFT within 1–3 business days once you confirm your details.
! If the buyer reports that you sent the wrong or misdescribed item, and our review of your photos agrees, the buyer is refunded in full — including their delivery — and you become liable for the return courier and our service fees. Full terms under Safety & Rules.
8 · Agreements — all required

We review every listing before it goes live — usually within 24 hours. You will receive your listing reference and a full copy of these terms by email and WhatsApp.

Safety & Rules

These terms apply to every listing and every order on Waterdaddy Resale. By listing an item or placing an order you agree to them.

Everything Goes Through Us

Seller names, addresses, numbers and emails are never shown on a listing. The buyer pays Waterdaddy. Waterdaddy books the courier. Waterdaddy pays the seller. Nobody has to trust a stranger and no proof of payment can be faked. Anyone asking you to deal off the platform is attempting a scam — report it.

What It Costs

Seller: service fees are deducted from your sale and shown in full on the listing form before you submit.
Buyer: the listed price, plus a service fee covering the secure payment and card charges, plus delivery at Courier Guy rates. Every line is itemised at checkout.

The 48-Hour Window

From delivery, the buyer has 48 hours to confirm the item or report a problem. If nothing is reported the order confirms automatically and the seller is paid. Reports made after 48 hours cannot be considered.

Photos Are The Evidence

Every dispute is decided on the listing photos against the item that arrived. Racing suits must show the World Aquatics approval tag and batch code. Goggles, caps, fins, paddles, wetbags and older training costumes carry no approval tag and are listed on honest photos alone.

How An Order Works

Every order carries a reference number. Both parties are notified at each step.

Buyer Pays Waterdaddy

The buyer pays the item price, the service fee and the delivery charge to Waterdaddy. An order is created with a reference in the format WDR-2026-0001 and every amount is recorded against it. The money is held by Waterdaddy. It is not sent to the seller.

We Book The Courier

Waterdaddy uses the delivery charge to book Courier Guy to collect from the seller's address and deliver to the buyer's address. Neither party sees the other's address. The seller must have the item packaged safely and ready for collection.

Collection

Buyer and seller are both notified by email and WhatsApp when the parcel is collected, with the waybill number for tracking.

Delivery

On delivery, Waterdaddy, the buyer and the seller are all notified. The buyer receives an itemised confirmation of exactly what was ordered, taken from our records, and is told the 48-hour window has begun. The seller is told the item was delivered and that their payment will be processed within 48 hours.

48-Hour Inspection

The buyer checks the item against the listing. If it matches, they do nothing — or confirm early to release payment sooner. If it does not match, they report it with photos inside 48 hours.

Seller Is Paid

With no complaint, payment is released. Store credit is issued immediately as a code that loads into the seller's wallet on this site and can be spent straight away. Bank payouts are made by EFT within 1–3 business days after the seller confirms the bank details we hold. Sellers who chose EFT are offered store credit one final time before we pay, because it is worth more.

If The Wrong Item Arrives

The rules below apply when a buyer reports, within 48 hours, that the item materially differs from the listing.

Report It Within 48 Hours

The buyer submits photos of what arrived, quoting the order reference. Waterdaddy still holds the full payment at this point — nothing has been released to the seller.

We Compare The Photos

Waterdaddy compares the listing photos and description against the photos of what arrived. A material difference means: a different item, a different size, undisclosed damage, or a counterfeit. It does not mean simply changing your mind, or the item being exactly as described but not to your taste.

Buyer Is Refunded In Full

If the complaint is upheld the buyer is refunded the entire amount they paid — item price, service fee and delivery — in cash to their original payment method. Store credit is offered as an alternative only if the buyer chooses it. The buyer is never left out of pocket for a seller's mistake.

The Seller Carries The Cost

Because the buyer is refunded everything, the seller becomes liable to Waterdaddy for the actual costs of the failed order: the original delivery already paid to Courier Guy, the return delivery, the card charges the payment provider does not refund, and an admin fee. These are actual costs, itemised on an invoice — not a penalty.

The Item Is Returned Once Those Costs Are Paid

The buyer keeps the item in their possession until the seller settles the invoice. Once paid, Waterdaddy books Courier Guy to collect it from the buyer and return it to the seller. If the seller does not settle within 7 days, the item becomes the buyer's to keep and the seller forfeits any claim to it.

Consequences

An honest error — a mistyped size, a missed mark — means a warning and the costs above. A counterfeit, an item never sent, or a second upheld complaint means the seller is permanently banned from listing on Waterdaddy Resale. Bans are recorded against the seller's identity, not just their email address.

Terms In Full

1 · Waterdaddy's Role

Waterdaddy Performance acts as an intermediary between private sellers and buyers of second-hand swimming equipment. Waterdaddy is not the owner or manufacturer of resale items and does not warrant their condition beyond the checks described here. Waterdaddy collects payment, arranges delivery, holds funds until delivery is confirmed, and administers disputes.

2 · Seller Warranties

By listing an item the seller warrants that: they own it and may lawfully sell it; they physically have it; it is authentic and not counterfeit or a grey good; and that the description, photographs, size, condition and stated original retail price are accurate and not misleading. A seller may not qualify a listing with any statement of doubt about authenticity.

3 · Prohibited Items

Counterfeit or replica goods, grey goods, items the seller does not have in their possession, items that cannot be photographed, and items misrepresented as to condition. Waterdaddy may remove any listing at its discretion.

4 · Fees

Seller service fees are deducted from the sale and are displayed in full on the listing form before submission. Buyer service fees and delivery charges are itemised at checkout before payment. Fee rates may change; the rates that apply to an order are those displayed at the time that order is placed and are fixed for that order.

5 · Delivery

Delivery is by Courier Guy at the rate shown at checkout. Waterdaddy books collection and delivery and generates the waybill. Sellers must have items packaged and available for collection. Waterdaddy is not liable for courier delays outside its control, but will assist in tracing and resolving them.

6 · Buyer Inspection Period

The buyer has 48 hours from delivery to report that an item materially differs from its listing. Reports must include photographs. After 48 hours without a report, the order is treated as confirmed and payment is released to the seller. This period is in addition to, and does not limit, any rights the buyer has under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

7 · Store Credit

Store credit is issued as a coded voucher redeemable against Waterdaddy Performance equipment and the delivery charges on Waterdaddy orders. It may not be used to purchase other sellers' resale listings, and may not be used for Waterdaddy Premium or training programme subscriptions, which are collected by monthly debit order. Credit may be spent in part; any unspent balance remains in the holder's wallet. Credit is valid for 36 months from issue.

8 · Payouts

Sellers choose store credit or bank payout when listing. Bank payouts require the seller to confirm the bank details Waterdaddy holds. Waterdaddy will request confirmation and send reminders. Where a seller does not respond, the amount is held as store credit and remains convertible to a bank payout at any time on confirmation of banking details. Waterdaddy does not retain a seller's money.

9 · Disputes And Liability

Disputes are decided on the listing photographs and description against evidence of what was delivered. Where a complaint is upheld the buyer is refunded in full and the seller is liable for the actual costs set out above. Disputes must be raised within 21 days of the order. Both parties must respond to Waterdaddy within 48 hours of a request.

10 · Consumer Protection

Nothing in these terms limits any right a consumer has under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other applicable South African law. Where any provision here conflicts with that Act, the Act prevails and the remaining provisions continue to apply. These terms are governed by South African law.

11 · Record Of Acceptance

Waterdaddy records the version of these terms accepted by each seller and buyer, together with the date and time of acceptance, and retains that record for the purposes of resolving any dispute.

⚠ These terms are a working draft. They have not been reviewed by an attorney. Before the marketplace takes real money, have them checked by a South African commercial lawyer — particularly the seller liability clause, the store credit conditions and the Consumer Protection Act interaction.
